Firestone Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
2018 | Cabernet Sauvignon
Founded in 1972, Firestone was the first major estate winery to sink roots in Santa Barbara County. The winery’s proximity to the Pacific Ocean, a mere 26 miles to the west, ensures a relatively mild and arid climate throughout the year. The moderate weather and complex, rocky soils make this a perfect setting for our 340 acres of Bordeaux, Rhône and Burgundian varieties.
VINEYARDS For a region that has been growing grapes since 1797, Paso Robles has all of a sudden become one of the “hottest” AVAs in California. Located midway between Santa Barbara and Monterey, this rolling countryside is synonymous with big, rich, high-character wines. The west portion of Paso Robles enjoys a moderately cool climate thanks to the influence of the nearby Pacific Ocean.
VINTAGE The 2018 vintage began with early bud break followed by an extremely mild spring and summer season, perfect conditions for longer hang time and more intense flavor development. Our Cabernet harvest kicked off with our first pick on September 18th and extended to November 7th. All of our fruit is harvested in cool temperatures to ensure cold fruit at pressing.
WINEMAKER NOTES A true representation of Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles, this wine expresses aromas of roasted plum, a touch of cherry and notes of black tea. The palate is lush and dark with red fruit characters, soft tannins and balanced acidity. A hint of toasty oak rounds out the finish.
