La Linda · Malbec 2021
14.0% ABV
Luigi Bosca’s La Linda range represents the pure expression of each varietal. Reds see minimum use of oak, while the whites are aged exclusively in stainless steel resulting in clean, fresh, fruit driven wines.
Terroir: Sourced from Bosca’s La Linda vineyard in the Lujan de Cuyo region of Mendoza. Vines average 30 years and sit at an elevation of 960 meters. Soils here are well drained and shallow based with a mix of clay, limestone and silt.
Vinification: Grapes are hand harvested and meticulously sorted and destemmed upon arrival at the winery. Fermentation takes place at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks followed by a brief aging of three months in cask.
Purplish red in color. Bright and young, with very expressive aromas reminiscent of fresh red fruit and spices. It is straightforward and fluid on the palate, with lively tannins. Intense, pleasant, and fresh in the mouth. Juicy with excellent structure, distinctive variety characteristics, and a very-well integrated herbal note finish.
With deep historical roots in Argentina’s Mendoza wine region, Bodega Luigi Bosca has a longstanding commitment to innovation and quality. Founded in 1901 by Don Leoncio Arizu, Bodega Luigi Bosca is the country’s oldest family-owned winery. Today, Alberto Jr. and Alberto Sr., who represent the third and fourth generations of the Arizu family, jointly manage this venerable enterprise.
With wide temperature swings between cold nights and hot days, the Arizu family have come to appreciate that Mendoza’s desert climate and terroir offer unique benefits to the wines they produce: it amplifies the aromatics and color and keeps the acidity balanced, while the alluvial deposits in the soil add minerality and depth.
Pioneers in Mendoza’s winemaking history, the Arizu family collaborated actively to create the Lujan de Cuyo Denomination of Origin (DO) appellation in1988. Under its DO regulations, the appellation adheres to strict aging and viticultural rules, including the fact that vines must be a minimum of 50 years old.
But the Arizu family did not stop there. At the forefront of a region-wide drive for improving the quality of Mendoza’s wines, Bodega Luigi Bosca has embraced the philosophy of bio-dynamics and biodiversity. The Arizu family believes that biodiversity in each vineyard’s ecosystem further enriches a harvest’s full potential by adding other plants such as olive and chestnut trees that complement and coexist with the vines during each growing season.
Bodega Luigi Bosca’s key vineyards in Mendoza are located in the prime growing areas of Maipu, Tupungato and Lujan de Cuyo. The seven proprietary names belonging to Bodega Luigi Bosca are: Finca La Linda, Finca Los Nobles, La España, Don Leoncio, El Paraíso, La Puntilla and Los Miradores. Located between 780 and 1,150 meters above sea level, each of these vineyards is watered with pure melt-water coming down from the Andes Mountains.
Each of the Arizu family’s vineyards is carefully planted with grapes best suited to that vineyard’s terroir. The different varieties of vines planted in these areas were brought from Europe towards the end of the 19th century. Consequently, today’s plantings across all of Bodega Luigi Bosca’s vineyard holdings are the result of a careful selection of the older family-owned vines, the oldest of which dates back to 1863.
Tradition, authenticity and elegance are the three foundations upon which all of the wines of Bodega Luigi Bosca line are based. Standing behind a century of history in each bottle, the Arizu family remains wedded to both tradition and innovation.
Bodega Luigi Bosca produces three ranges of wines: La Linda, fresh, unoaked cuvees of the best varietals; Luigi Bosca, a classic range from the best vineyards of the estate including the superb DOC Malbec; and an Icon or “Icono” range from specific vineyard sites and whose wines come from careful cellar selection by the Arizu family.
After more than 110 years of hard work, guided by a spirit of innovation in pursuit of quality, the Arizu family has earned its position as a leader in the nation’s wine history.
