Vintage Report
This was a challenging year in many ways, driving us to think differently across a range of practices and decision making. With lower yields than previous vintages and thanks to our Marquis Watering Program™, we achieved outstanding fruit quality with exceptional flavour concentrations across the entire range. McLaren Vale had dry weather conditions throughout spring/summer 19/20 and low rainfall. Our Langhorne Creek vineyards (60km west of McLaren Vale) on the other hand encountered significant frost early in spring along with hot and windy weather during flowering. These conditions reduced overall yields for both regions. During summer, many of our friends and colleagues in the Adelaide Hills and Kangaroo Island wine regions were hugely impacted by devastating bushfires. Fortunately for us, we were not impacted at all. It was heart-warming to see so many wineries and businesses rally together to support them through this diffcult time. A favorable ripening period for harvest was our silver lining to low yields, resulting in high quality, full-bodied and vibrant wines that reflect the characteristics of our 2020 vintage. interestingly, McLaren Vale had a larger crush than the Barossa Valley and Langhorne Creek regions for the first time since 2004.
Winemaker Tasting Notes
Complex and expressive, the 2020 Boxer exudes vivacity whilst maintaining great length. Black cherries, fresh plum, rich dark chocolate and licorice max out the flavor spectrum. Well measured tannins and slightly toasted oak compliment the rich fruit, creating a wine
with many layers. This Boxer is truly a knockout!
